Sunday Night

Ian is down to 7 breaths per minute on his ventilator now!!! They said they expect him to be off the vent tonight or in the morning. If he extubates himself tonight (they said he keeps pulling on the tube), they will leave it out and try a nasal canula with oxygen. If he doesn't pull it out tonight, they may extubate him tomorrow. We'll see how he does! Hopefully he'll do well and not need the ventilator back. He's on very light feeds of pedialyte now to see how he'll handle them and they will gradually increase them. He's 5lb 4oz tonight! He's a growing boy! Awwwe, i love him so much! :)

I can't believe the progress he has made in such a quick period of time. Getting ready to be off the vent is awesome. Some people say it goes well right away, other babies it can take a couple tries. Hopefully he gets the hang of it real fast! So is the pedialyte in a NG tube or something? Is it the same stuff babies would take for dehydration?

Yes, it's by an NG tube. And yes it's pedialyte like you would give babies for dehydration. They are trying it first because it's mainly just liquid with electrolytes and stuff added. If all goes well and he tolerates it, they will switch to formula :)
